The area
La Roche-Chalais is a small town on the Dronne, at the western tip of the Dordogne where it meets the Gironde, and the Greenwich meridian runs through it. Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage wine landscape, is 30 minutes away. For early arrivals: the church carved into the cliff at Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, 20 minutes away, and its Sunday morning market.

Your questions
Let Fervenza handle everythingLet Fervenza handle everythingHow much does a wedding at Château de la Valouze cost?
From $100,000, all-inclusive, for about 100 guests in April or November: the venue, the table, the flowers, the music, your photos, and us on site. From May to October, the price follows the château's seasons. The exact price for your date, in writing within a week.
Can the price change?
Once we’ve agreed, no. It only changes if you change the wedding: more or fewer guests, a wish added along the way.
What if one of our suppliers can’t make it?
We replace them. They’re our suppliers, under our contract, so the two of you have nothing to search for or renegotiate. You approve the choice, and we take care of the rest.
Can we insure our wedding?
Yes, if you wish. We can offer optional cancellation insurance dedicated to your wedding, placed with Lloyd’s. It covers canceling or postponing for reasons beyond your control, including if one of you can’t be there, as set out in the policy terms.
What if we booked the château directly?
You can, it's a beautiful house. The château lets you the whole estate, its ballroom sound system included. You then bring together the caterer, the florist, the band, and a wedding planner, whom the château recommends. With us, all of that is in your price, every choice stays yours, and the château keeps its own rate. You come to get married.
How many guests can we invite?
Up to 140 at table in the ballroom, 200 for drinks and 150 for the ceremony in the park. And 94 of your guests sleep on the estate, between the château, the apartment and the woodland bungalows.
Which dates are still free?
Tell us your date, we check with the château and reply in writing. Weddings here are often booked 12 to 18 months ahead, and the high season runs from May to October.
Can we have a secular ceremony on site?
Yes: in the park, facing the château's facade, for up to 150 guests, or in the shade of trees four centuries old. Your words, your officiant, and the château as your backdrop.
Can we have a church wedding?
Yes: the village church, 2 km away, is a neo-Gothic building consecrated in 1872. One couple held their ceremony there at 5 pm, then came back to the château for drinks. We check your date with the parish.
Can we have our civil wedding in La Roche-Chalais?
In France, a civil wedding always takes place at a town hall, never at the château. La Roche-Chalais town hall can marry you if one of you, or one of your parents, lives there or has lived there for at least a month. Otherwise, the civil wedding happens in your own town, and the ceremony at the château.
Our guests are flying in. Is it easy for them?
Yes: Bordeaux airport and Bergerac airport are an hour away, Bordeaux station 50 minutes. Once they arrive, nobody needs a car: 94 beds on the estate, and the village is 2 km away.
Coming from abroad: how does it work?
Your contract is governed by French law, and also written in English.
How late can the party go?
The château has always promised dancing until dawn: dinner on the terrace, dancing in the ballroom, then the end of the party moves down to the jazz bar in the cellar. We confirm the château's exact hours for your date, in writing.
What if it rains?
Rain plan: drinks in the winter garden, the glass structure on the château's west facade, and dinner in the ballroom, right next to the terrace, with its 140 seats under the timber roof.
Where do we get ready?
One of you in the bridal suite, with its dressing room, its lounge, its kitchenette and its balcony over the park; the other in the hunting room on the top floor, the room most often used to get ready and have a first drink.
Will our grandparents be comfortable?
Yes: three ground-floor bedrooms in the château open straight onto the park, a few steps from the jazz bar, and about a hundred parking spaces wait on site. The panelled library on the first floor is there for an hour away from the party.
