The area

The Île de la Barthelasse stretches between two arms of the Rhône, facing the ramparts of Avignon. Across the river, the Palais des Papes and the Pont d'Avignon are a World Heritage Site. Early arrivals cycle round the island, 14 km of towpath with the city in view, cross the Rhône on the free ferry and end up at the covered market, Les Halles, open every morning, Tuesday to Sunday.

How much does a wedding at Château de Bouchony cost?

From $120,000, all-inclusive, for about 100 guests, on weekdays from Tuesday to Friday: the venue, the table, the flowers, the music, your photos, and us on site. A Friday-to-Monday weekend costs more. Your exact price depends on your date and guest count, in writing within a week.

Can the price change?

Once we’ve agreed, no. It only changes if you change the wedding: more or fewer guests, a wish added along the way.

What if one of our suppliers can’t make it?

We replace them. They’re our suppliers, under our contract, so the two of you have nothing to search for or renegotiate. You approve the choice, and we take care of the rest.

Can we insure our wedding?

Yes, if you wish. We can offer optional cancellation insurance dedicated to your wedding, placed with Lloyd’s. It covers canceling or postponing for reasons beyond your control, including if one of you can’t be there, as set out in the policy terms.

What if we booked the château directly?

You can, it's a beautiful house. The château rents you its estate, with its 20 beds, its sailcloth marquee and its furniture. You then bring together the caterer, the service, the flowers, the decor, the music, the photographer and the running order. With us, all of that is in your price, every choice stays yours, and the château keeps its own rate. You come to get married.

How many guests can we invite?

Up to 150 at the table with the château's own furniture, under the 280 m² sailcloth marquee or facing the façade. If you are more, tell us your number and we check with the château. 20 of your guests sleep on site, the others in Avignon, 10 minutes away.

Which dates are still free?

The château hosts weddings from spring to autumn, and only a few each year. Tell us your date, we check with Château de Bouchony and reply in writing.

Can we have a secular ceremony on site?

Yes: under the gloriette, a pavilion tucked into the gardens, or among the French parterres and their pools. The words you choose, the person you choose to marry you, your people in a circle, and the château's façade at the end of the alley.

Can we have a religious ceremony at the château?

Yes. The estate has its own small consecrated chapel, so you can marry in church without leaving the château, with the agreement of the parish. Then your guests just cross the gardens for drinks.

Can we have our civil wedding in Avignon?

In France, a civil wedding always takes place at a town hall, never at the château. Avignon town hall can marry you if one of you, or one of your parents, lives there or has lived there for at least a month. Otherwise, the civil wedding happens in your own town, and the ceremony at the château.

Our guests are flying in. Is it easy for them?

Very: Avignon TGV station is 12 minutes away, 2 h 33 from Paris by direct train, and Marseille airport is 55 minutes away. 20 of your guests sleep at the château, and we share the best addresses in Avignon for the others.

How do our guests get back after the party?

20 of them are just a staircase away from their room. The others sleep in Avignon, 10 minutes away. We give you the addresses, ready to share with your loved ones.

Where do we get ready?

At the château. One of you in the bridal suite, the other in one of the apartments, with its own kitchen and living room for your people. The gardens are right downstairs for the first photos.

And if it rains?

The ceremony moves under the 280 m² sailcloth marquee, where dinner and the dancing already are: everyone under cover, with the gardens in view. And the small chapel stays open for a religious ceremony.

We're marrying in July. Will it be hot?

Yes, July afternoons in Avignon reach about 31 °C. So the ceremony moves to late afternoon, as the heat fades, and dinner follows under the marquee, open onto the lawns. Until then, your guests wait by the heated pool or in the shade of the gardens.

Will our families be comfortable?

Yes: a children's area, private parking inside the estate, and the château's estate manager on site all through your wedding. Children are welcome, and so are dogs.
